Op zaterdag 17 december vond het slotmoment van het project 'Op het Kruispunt: voor LGBTI+ personen met een handicap' plaats in het Provinciehuis in Leuven. Naast een goed gevuld programma met workshops en activiteiten, stelde Çavaria ook de tools voor die binnen dit project werden ontwikkeld.

I left my home in glamorous Aalter on a cold, frosty morning to go the LGBTQI+ people with disabilities workshop in Leuven. The train station in Aalter is fully accessible, but when I arrived at Ghent St. Pieter station, I needed help with my wheelchair on the platform.
When I arrived in Leuven, the train station was also fully accessible, including the short way to the Province House, where the workshop took place. At the Province House, I was met by Tim, who was one of the organisers. He had been very helpful in getting me registered for the workshop. He introduced me to Anna, another Çavaria staff member, who was my translator for the first workshop event, which was a theatre activity using games and improvisation. It was delightful.
Then, there was a tasty lunch of vegetarian sandwiches and I was able to chat with some of the participants of the workshop. I also chatted with Olivia from Çavaria, who was very helpful with information about housing support for older members of the LGBTQI+ community.
The second event I attended was Hans’s excellent meeting of different organisations who are providing support for LGBTQI+ people across Flanders. It was a great conversation. And I was very grateful to Cassandra, the volunteer who translated for me.
It was a wonderful day to be with other members of the LGBTQI+ community, working together to provide support and inclusion for everyone. Thanks so much for the opportunity to participate.

Negen organisaties sloegen het laatste jaar de handen in elkaar om drempels voor LGBTI+ mensen met een handicap weg te werken. Çavaria, Casa Rosan Konekt, Inter, GRIP vzw, Transgender Infopunt, UniQue, Aut & Out en Intersekse Vlaanderen werkten een jaar lang samen aan tools en expertise om hun organisaties inclusiever te maken voor LGBTI+ mensen met fysieke, mentale, verstandelijke of zintuiglijke beperkingen. Naast een goed gevuld programma stelde Çavaria op dit slotmoment ook de tools voor die binnen dit project werden ontwikkeld:
- Gids over inclusieve communicatie
- Tips voor inclusief vergaderen
- Inclusiescan: hoe inclusief is je organisatie?
- Gids over transgender zijn en transgenderzorg

Dit project werd gerealiseerd met de steun van De Warmste Week, die in 2021 focuste op het thema Kunnen zijn wie je bent.
